이 작품은 2004년 파주출판도시에 지어진 보리출판사 사옥에 어린이 도서관이라는 새롭고 활기찬 생명력을 부여하려는 노력의 산물이다. 

이 건물의 지상 1, 2층과 지하층은 원래 사무실과 이벤트 홀 등으로 계획되었지만, 창고와 직원식당으로 사용되어 왔다. 사옥의 형태적, 내용적 개조를 통해 기업의 대외 이미지를 개선하고 사내분위기를 쇄신한다는 것이 본 프로젝트 설계의 시발점이었다. 지상 1층에는 북카페와 아트샵, 지상 2층에는 타원형 서가를, 그리고 지하층에는 이벤트 홀을 계획했다. 지상 1,2층 그리고 지하층의 세 공간은 차별화되는 특징을 지니고 독자적이면서도 서로 조화를 이루면서 방문객들에게 대조적인 공간적 경험을 제공한다. 현재를 중심으로 과거에서 미래로 시간의 흐름 안에 자신을 형성하는 건축이 풍만함을 가졌으면 하는 생각, 그리고 인간의 기억에 풍만함을 지니게 하는 것이 가능하다면 좋겠다라는 생각이었다. 

이전부터 알도 로시 등이 말했던 도시에서의 기억, 기억의 장소로서의 도시라는 개념을 감안하고 있었다. 10년 전 건축의 내부를 다시 장식하면서 새로운 부분을 부가하는 프로그램이므로 옛 것과 새 것이 내부에서 결합되어 있다. 

 옛 건물에 들어가면 현재의 새로운 건물이 나타나게 된다. 외곽을 남기고 내부를 수정했다. 내부는 신축과 같고 이중으로 되어 있다. 낡은 것과 새로운 것을 결합하는 형태가 기본이다. 

예로 타원형 서가를 통해, 전면주출입구를 통해, 선큰 데크를 통해 새로운 공간이 나타난다. 

This project is an endeavor to give the Bori publisher building, built in the Paju Bookcity in 2004, a vital new life as an children library.   The first and second floor and ground floor were originally intended to be office and event hall, but it has been used for book storage and staff restaurant.  The challenge to create a corporate identity and public presence through the transformation of this building, both formally and pragmatically, became the departure point for the design.

The outer shell had been left intact, but the interior was redone. The interior is like a new building in itself, so there are really two layers to the building. The basic idea is to join the old and the new. For example, to get to the oval library, you go through the front main entrance, go through the sunken deck, that is, go to arrive at the new. A planned bookcafe and artshop are on the first floor, a oval library is on the second floor, and a event hall is on the ground floor. The three spaces - autonomous the first, second and ground floor - call and respond, different each other, and giving visitors contrasting spatial experiences. I want the building I design to expand human memory in the flow of time. For some time I've been thinking about the creation of what people like Aldo Rocci call memory in the city, that is, the creation of the city as a place of memory. This is involve the inside merging of the old and the new, since the program calls for the remodelling of 10 years ago interior and a new addition. You'll enter an old building and come out of a new.
